REVIEW:
I’m easing my way back into a good reading cycle and wanted to start off with a bang. I was recommended Crow by a fellow reader and was sucked in immediately to this hard-core mafia world. I loved Zavarelli’s writing style and the great character development between the two very different leads.
Crow follows Mack, who is on the search for her missing friend. When the police and PI’s cant help her, she decides to take the task into her own hands. Meaning risking her life too infiltrate the Irish mafia. Mack catches the eye of one of the leaders, Lachlan, who is mean and hard-core to the bone. Mack doesn’t know what she’s in for when she starts working in this new world, but she’ll do anything to find her friend. Even more of a surprise, is that she’s not prepared to fall for Lachlan, whom she doesn’t even know if she can trust. But with everyone having secrets, there is know way to tell who is telling the truth and who is going to stab someone in the back.
Mack is the definition of “bad-ass woman”, she is a fighter, like her father was. But also she doesn’t back down when face with the possibly she’s going to die. Her connection to Lachlan is intense, they of course don’t get along at first, but the tension is insane and I couldn’t wait for these two to hit it off. She also develops a soft spot for one of her fellow co-workers that she ends up becoming great friends with. I liked how she had her back and wanted to protect her from some real scary jerks.
Lachlan, oh this man is hard to describe…but I fell hard for this bad boy. He oozes sexy, dark and dangerous. He is the possible next in line to take over the Irish Mafia, and now that Mack has appeared, she a distraction he doesn’t need but defiantly wants. Lachlan changes a bit, but he’s still continues to be the hard-core criminal just opens up to Mack and pretty much will take down anyone who looks at her wrong.
Overall, I loved the romance; I needed something like this story to get me back into the reading mode. Both characters are very flawed in the best of ways and don’t care that there is going to be many challenges for them ahead. There is violence, so don’t get me wrong, but its not to the extreme where it will make you not want to read it. This is only the first book in the series and I love how the story concludes but we will find out how they progress in the future books.

ACTUAL RATING 4.5 STARS
I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately- just could not find anything to grab my attention for longer than the first few pages or chapter.
That is... until Crow came along.
I'm so happy to have finally finished a book lol. Loved it! Well-written and just the right mixture of elements to keep me interested so that I could blaze through the story. I love sassy characters, and Mackenzie is a spitfire- loved her character. If the F-bomb is offensive, then I wouldn't suggest reading this book hahaha. Mack sets out to find out what happened to her best friend by going undercover as a dancer at the club, but finds herself drawn to someone she'd least expect- & the steam rises between Mack (Butterfly) and Lachlan. This is my first book by this author, but I'm on board and eager to read more. Next...
I'm pretty infamous for disliking mafia romances because the vast majority of them tend to be so stupid and so badly-written. Seriously, they're second only to MC romances in terms of my least favorite sub-genre of romance novel. Don't @ me.
But several of my very trusted friends were raving about the Boston Underworld series, and being Irish myself, I couldn't help but be intrigued because Irish dudes are super hot.
CROW does not start off well at all, though. I liked Mackenzie's POV a lot because she's a female boxer seeking revenge and who doesn't like that? But Lachlan's POV at first was just non-stop, "Ooh, I'm such a bad boy, look at me and my fancy weapons and all these swear words I know how to use!" and I started having flashbacks to SPARROW, and thinking, "Oh lord, spare me from vain psychos in books named after birds!"
But by the middle of the book, everything smoothed out and I couldn't put the book down. Of course, it helps that the heroine is as far from TSTL as humanly possible. She is determined to get her revenge and is willing to do anything to get it - wink, wink. There were hot sex scenes, intense action scenes, Mackenzie saving herself, Lachlan acting like a genuine BAMF and not just a facsimile of one, and oh, yes, tons of alpha male action done right. I'll have what she's having, thanks!
The flaws to this story are, of course, the pacing issues (that beginning needs to be ironed out), a number of typos, some odd stylistic choices (why is the beginning paragraph of each chapter in, like, size 32 font? Nope, nope, nope), and the fact that both of these characters appear to have a MAJOR latex allergy because there wasn't a single condom in sight for any of that hot sexing.
Still, I ended up having a lot of fun with CROW and look forward to reading the sequel.
